Helping Our Young People Prepare for the Future

Loretta expanded the Summer Works program, a paid internship program that has provided intensive academic support and career and college experiences to thousands of local high school students – mostly from undeserved communities – to put them on a path to success.  Loretta has succeeded in growing the program from 50 jobs the first year to 650 jobs in the summer of 2017. To date, over 4,500 Portland young people have participated in the program and now have better opportunities to grow and succeed.

"What we are really doing is growing the next generation of young leaders," Smith said. "And there is no better way to do that than by offering kids the chance to work"
