Eliminating the Digital Divide
Loretta has worked hard with public and private partners to bridge the digital divide that prevents Portland’s communities of color and low-income residents from accessing broadband Internet services. She recognizes that access to high-speed Internet services is critical for personal success today – whether it is in education, employment, or democratic participation. Loretta sponsored the proposal to redirect unused county computer funds to purchase computers for community kids that graduated from Head Start. She also established a pilot program with community partners to purchase laptops for low-income youth.
